About me.
I was born and raised in Colorado and have lived in Brooklyn for my entire adult life. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University where I majored in illustration and studied creative writing. Years later I completed a Master of Fine Art in painting at the New York Academy of Art.
My illustrations are rooted in a childhood spent imagining worlds and telling tales to myself, playing in the woods, building forest forts, and watching animals. Fox & Rabbit are my favorite duo. Squirrel, Raccoon, and Bird are happy additions. My hope is that the animals convey deep human feelings with a sense of humor. I enjoy that they would be foes outside of my created world, where they are the best of friends. I also have fun drawing animals from other locales, such as the swamp down south or creatures of the sea. Or nods to daily city life in New York, cultural references from art museums, and my favorite painter’s pets. But woodland animals keep me preoccupied. I welcome the influence of my childhood reading of classics from fables to Beatrix Potter. My animals are human in nature but hopefully kinder in spirit.
